Zurich Airport Day Rooms: the Transit Hotel by the Hour, Capsule Day Passes and Hotel Day Use

A twelve-hour gap between a dawn arrival from Asia and an evening flight to London, a cancellation that moves your departure to the next morning, a 2:00 pm landing with a hotel booked for the night: Zurich produces all three, and each one needs a bed for part of a day rather than a night. The airport is unusual in selling its own rooms by the hour on the airside of security; this guide compares them with the capsules landside and the hotels a short walk away, by the hours you have.

The Transit Hotel: rooms by the hour, airside

The airport’s Transit Hotel and Dayrooms is at the D gates on the first floor of the B/D pier, in the non-Schengen transit zone, and is the only hourly accommodation inside security. It has 15 simple rooms (single, double and multi-bed) with a washbasin, TV, water, coffee and tea, a rest area with 12 loungers and lockers, and showers along the corridor with towels, shower gel and hairdryers. Day prices from November 2025 are in two bands, up to four hours and more than four hours: a single room CHF 90 or 120, a double CHF 120 or 150, a triple CHF 150 or 180, a lounger CHF 45 or 60; a shower without a room is sold separately, and extra hours on a room cost CHF 10. Reservations are taken up to six months ahead on the airport’s site, by phone or at the desk, which is staffed 24 hours. It is closed for refurbishment from 9 to 22 November 2026. Passengers connecting between Schengen flights can reach it only by passing exit passport control, so it suits non-Schengen itineraries best.

The capsules: day passes landside

The Alpine Garden Capsule Hotel opposite Check-in 1 sells day use from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm from about CHF 35, with the same lockable capsule, shared showers, luggage room and bistro as an overnight stay. It is landside, so it works for arriving passengers with an evening departure and for transit passengers who have cleared immigration, and it is the cheapest horizontal rest at the airport. Details on the capsule hotel page.

Hotel day use

None of the eight hotels on this site publishes an hourly rate of its own. The Radisson Blu and the Dorint are listed on day-use platforms at daytime discounts, and the Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Place and Mövenpick quote early check-in and late check-out at the desk when occupancy allows. For a gap of eight hours or more, book a standard night at the Hyatt Place or the ibis budget and use it by day: check-in is at 3:00 pm or 2:00 pm, bags can be left at the desk from the morning, and the walk or tram back is a few minutes. The Hyatt Regency’s sauna and the Hilton’s sauna and steam room are for registered guests.

Lounges for the short gap

For two to four hours airside, a lounge is cheaper than any room. The marhaba Lounge in the Airside Center takes any passenger for a fee and Priority Pass; the Aspire and Primeclass lounges in Dock E take Priority Pass, DragonPass and the premium cards and have showers; the SWISS lounges admit by class and status. The lounges guide has hours and access.

Which option for how long

  • 2 to 4 hours, airside: a lounge, or a lounger in the Transit Hotel rest area (CHF 45) if you need to lie flat.
  • 4 to 8 hours, airside, non-Schengen: a Transit Hotel single at CHF 90 to 120 with a shower.
  • 4 to 8 hours, landside: a capsule day pass from CHF 35, or the city, 10 minutes by train (layover guide).
  • 8 to 12 hours, daytime: a one-night booking at the Hyatt Place or the ibis budget used by day.
  • Overnight: see sleeping in the airport for the curfew, the Transit Hotel by the night and the hotels a walk away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I rent a room by the hour at Zurich Airport?

Yes, airside: the airport's Transit Hotel at the D gates sells its rooms for the day in two bands, up to four hours and more than four hours, from CHF 90 for a single, with a lounger in the rest area from CHF 45 and showers for a fee. Landside, the Capsule Hotel sells day passes from about CHF 35 between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.

Do the hotels near Zurich Airport offer day use?

The Radisson Blu and the Dorint appear on day-use booking platforms at reduced daytime rates, and the Hyatts and the Mövenpick quote early check-in or late check-out at the desk; none publishes an hourly rate on its own site. For a gap of eight hours or more, a standard night at the Hyatt Place or the ibis budget used by day is the usual workaround.

Where can I shower during a layover?

Airside at the Transit Hotel (fee without a room), in the SWISS, Aspire and Primeclass lounges in Dock E and in the marhaba Lounge in the Airside Center. Landside, the Capsule Hotel's showers come with a day pass, and Airport Fitness in the terminal complex sells day passes with showers.

Is there somewhere to lie down for free?

Not really. Zurich has no free rest zones or sleep chairs; the free seating airside has armrests and the gate areas are quiet but upright. Budget CHF 45 for a lounger in the Transit Hotel's rest area or CHF 35 for a capsule.
